The acreage came with grass for my husband's cows, yards to put them in, a big beautiful barn, a large garden space, 2 pear trees, a plum tree, a cherry tree, grape vines, and of course, a house to live in. We both have jobs in town, but still found time (not sure how sometimes) to grow cattle, pigs, and a garden we both tend to. For years I gave away the grapes and the pears because I just didn't have the time to mess with them. I have a couple neighbor ladies that gladly came over and picked the fruit in exchange for some of the jelly made with it. There's nothing like homemade jelly!

I'm not sure where this adventure is going to take me, but you're welcome to come along. It's never a dull moment when you ride along with me. It's not a business yet, but it could be someday. I bought 4 domain names last fall, set up an email for one of them, and am (finally) getting this website/blog session going. Bear with me, not real sure what I'm doing yet, but it will be fun. (and tasty if I do it right) I have set up a facebook page for Caromyl Wines, so follow along there too, ask questions, whatever. I will fill in more info as I have time, e.g. pictures, where the name came from, wine ideas, info from you, the public, if you like. I'm just gonna go with the flow, into a wine glass, and see what happens.    Thanks!      Carolyn

Well, I'm back! I've been busy since this page began. It's February 29th, and as of this last weekend, I have just under 30 gallons of wine stored in carboys. Cherry, and 2 separate batches of my grape, are clearing out nicely. Within a week, I should be bottling the cherry. The first batch of grape should be clearing in about a month, then bottle that. If any of you are in the Petersburg area come August 6th, come see me at the Bash in the Burg!  I am entering my wine(s) again this year. Last year, as a first time competitor, I won first place AND People's Choice! I was so surprised and excited at the same time! The people running that are so nice and the food is fantastic!!

When we bought this acreage, one of the first things that caught my eye was this beautiful windmill sitting on the hill. It's one of my favorite things here at home, hence using it as a backdrop for the website and on the labels and cards. The picture doesn't do it justice. The sun setting behind it is spectacular.

Still going after 9 years!! Having fun with grapes, pears, cherries, aronia berries, and strawberries. Making some fun wines and hosting a couple Wine Tasting Plus events. I posted some pics of recent grapes, wine labels, etc. Take a look! The next Wine Tasting Plus is being planned!

I wondered one day staring at the grape vines if I had enough to make wine. I hunted down a couple old boys in town and they came out. Sure enough, 80# later, we had wine. Pretty tasty stuff there. That's the short version. Over the last 2 years, I've been playing with this new hobby, buying all my own supplies instead of using my "wine gurus". In they're words, they "created a monster". Hee hee! I'll take that as a compliment. (Not sure if my husband agrees)

This round of grape picking, 2015 season, I got 200# of grapes! "trim the vines". He said. "That's what all the vinyards do". He said. Bob, I love ya dearly, but I was gonna kick you right in the shin. What on earth!!! How did I go from 80# to 200# in one season. What am I gonna do with 200# of grapes in my deep freezer? Bob's words of wisdom... make wine! Duh! Thanks Bob.

So, here I am. 2 batches of grape, one batch of cherry, and 38# of grapes still in the freezer. My husband is not impressed. I have to get the rest of the grapes out of the freezer before our half of beef is done at the locker. This week.  Oh Bob...
